DILLON
Sent to Fiorina 161 after being convicted of raping and murdering numerous women, Dillon found new hope for redemption in God and soon about twenty-something of the convicts joined him in his newfound faith. It was not his imposing physical appearance, but his imposing strength of will, that led him to become the spiritual leader for the newly religious band of criminals. The men always felt a unity, not only of the spirit, but of trust, between one another
When the Weyland-Yutani Corporation wanted to shut down the prison on the planet, it was Dillon that spearheaded the fight to allow him and his "brothers" (the other convicts that had attained this new faith in God) to stay behind as custodians - along with two men to mind them, plus one medical officer.
When an EEV crash-lands on the planet, the ex-convicts are disturbed to hear that the only survivor is a woman. Dillon himself is concerned over this intrusion, and voices his feelings.
- "We view the presence of any outsider - especially a
woman - as a violation of the harmony, a potential break
in the spiritual unity."
At the funeral for Corporal Hicks and
Rebecca "Newt" Jordan, Dillon makes the closing
statement, a moving testimonial to the upside of such a loss.
Later on in the mess hall, Ripley walks up to Dillon and tries to
thank him for his words. Dillon immediately tries to discourage
her from trying to get to know him, but when he sees her
persistence, he becomes a little more accepting, and explains
both his initial anxiety and final acceptance to her.
- "Do you have any faith, sister?" - Dillon
- "Not much." - Ripley
- "Well we've got a lot of faith here. Enough even for
you." - Dillon
- "I thought women weren't allowed." - Ripley
- "Well, we've never had any before. But we tolerate
anybody... even the intolerable."
- "Thank you... " - Ripley
- "That's just a statement of principle, nothing
personal. You see, we've got a good place away here. And
until now, no temptation." - Dillon
Ripley does not see Dillon again until
when she tries to find Bishop out in the junkpile. After she
retrieves what remains of Bishop, four of the ex-cons try to rape
her, but Dillon appears just in time, and, armed with a metal
bar, quickly pummels the men as punishment for their actions.
Shortly afterwards, Dillon encounters a deranged Golic who was
earlier assigned to survey the tunnels along with fellow ex-cons
Boggs and Rains. He helps rush him into the infirmary where
Superintendant Andrews comes to the conclusion that Golic
probably killed the others, who are missing. Dillon quickly
springs to Golic's defense.
- "He's never lied to me. He's crazy, he's a fool, but
he's not a liar."
It is not long after this that the
ex-convicts all encounter the real killer for the first time, the
alien. The men need a leader to help them fight the animal, and
they initially want Dillon. But he declines and suggest Ripley
instead. All of the convicts help in the first attempt attempt to
trap the creature, which fails. Dillon is in a cell after this
when Ripley comes in and informs him that she has a queen inside
of her. She asks him to kill her since the alien will not. Dillon
refuses, citing the fact that if it won't kill her that can help
them to fight it. He and Ripley together come up with the plan to
drown the beast in hot lead, and then meet the the other ex-cons
down in the furnace to try to convince them to go along with it.
- "You're all gonna die. The only question is how you
check out. Do you want it on your feet? Or on your
fucking knees. Begging. I ain't much for begging. Nobody
ever gave me nothin'. So I say fuck that thing! Let's
fight it!"
The men try to lure the alien in front of the piston but fail,
and Ripley ends up attempting to bring it out. Her attempts fail
until Dillon comes up behind her and drags her back towards the
piston. The alien, thinking that Dillon is a danger to Ripley,
follows after them, wanting to protect the queen Ripley carries.
When they reach the lead mold, Ripley climbs out, but Dillon
stays behind to keep the beast there, and thus prevent it from
climbing out. Ripley asks him to climb up, and remind him of his
promise to kill her if they kill the alien first.
- "I've gotta hold it here." - Dillon
- "What about me?" - Ripley
- "God will take care of you now, sister!" -
Dillon
- "No!" - Ripley
- "Pour the lead." - Dillon
Then, the only other ex-con still alive, Morse, pours the hot
lead down upon both the alien and Dillon.
- OTHER NOTES:
-
- Played by Charles S. Dutton.
- In the original script, Dillon was not killed
before the lead was poured and then covered by
it. He jumps out just as the lead is poured into
the mold. Then, Ripley pleads with him to kill
her. He finally says that he can't, and, just
then, the alien leaps out and then falls back
into the lead, pulling Dillon back in with it.
