L. BISHOP

Bishop, the android that accompanied the marines to LV-426, was one of various similarly modeled synthetic humanoids designed by Bishop II. The droid's likeness is the same as that of its creator. This specific synthetic was serial number 341-B. When the group traversing to the planet awakens from hypersleep and eats breakfast, Hudson stops Bishop as he walks by, asking him to "do the thing with knife." The group cheers as Bishop's lightening-fast right hand skillfully maneuvers a knife around the fingers of his own left hand and Hudson's hand that is screaming of terror.
When he sits down at the other end of the table, offering corn to Ripley and Burke, he notices a cut on his hand, with milky white fluid flowing out of it. Ripley now first realizes Bishop is an android, and is disturbed at the presence of one on board, due to her previous encounter with the synthetic Ash, the traitorous science officer on the ship Nostromo.
Later Bishop drives the APC into the drop ship, and drives it out again after the ship lands on the planet's surface. Bishop stays behind with Burke, Ripley, and Gorman in the APC while the other marines check the perimeter of the complex. After the other marines determine that the area is secure, they join the others inside. In the medlab, the group encounters a number of face-huggers inside of tubes. Bishop notes that two of the creatures are alive, and the others are dead. He reads more from a medical log. The group soon encounters the young girl, Newt. Newt is brought back to medlab, and, while the group moves their equipment into the complex, Bishop studies the dead huggers.
Bishop agrees to go out to the colony uplink tower and call down the other drop ship from the Sulaco, the marine ship, on his own. He crawls through a narrow pipe for approximately 14 min
in order to get to the tower, and then patches in and calls the ship down on remote. Meanwhile, back in medlab and operations, the aliens get through the barricades set up by the group and they are forced to evacuate through the air ducts. As they race towards the landing pad, Hicks shouts into his radio to Bishop.
  • "Bishop! Do you read me?! Come in! Over!" - Hicks
  • "The ship is on its way! ETA, fifteen minutes!" - Bishop
  • "Good! Stand by there, we're on our way!" - Hicks
But by the time the group reaches the pad, only Ripley and Hicks are left, and Hicks is badly wounded. Bishop then flies Ripley into the atmosphere processor so that she may enter the hive to retrieve Newt, who was carried off by an alien. He gives her a final warning to hurry and she enters into the elevator. While she is gone, Bishop tends to Hicks, finally giving a shot that
knocks him out to relieve the pain. He soon realizes that the platform he has parked the drop ship on is too unstable and takes off, circling around. When he gets back, Ripley is standing on the platform with Newt in her arms. They climb in and fly away just as the compound explodes. Back on the Sulaco, Bishop, Ripley, and Newt exit the drop ship and walk along the loading docks. Bishop fears that he bothered Ripley with his disappearance when he had to circle the ship around, but she reassures him.
  • "Bishop... you did okay." - Ripley
  • "I did?" - Bishop
  • "Oh yeah." - Ripley
And at that moment, the alien queen that was hiding in the drop ship's landing gear drove her tail through Bishop's chest, pulling him up to her and then ripping him in half with her arms. Bishop's torso is separated from his legs and he can only watch the spectacle around him, as the queen chases Newt, then battles Ripley, who is riding in a power loader. Ripley and then queen finally plummet into the airlock and Ripley opens it. The queen is blasted out into space, but Newt is pulled towards the airlock too. Bishop anchors himself on the grating of the floor and grabs onto Newt's arm, holding her back from the abyss.
Ripley finally climbs out of the airlock and shuts it. It's all over. The Queen has been eliminated, and so the Xenomorphs.
  • "Not bad for a human."
Finally, Bishop goes into hypersleep alongside Hicks, Ripley, and Newt.
