Rebecca Jorden (Newt)

A small child turned into a pure survivor, Newt manages to live through the aliens onslaught and terror of colony Acheron. Newt's family (father, mother, and brother, Timmy) head out on their fateful voyage toward the derelict ship that will soon cause doom to all. On a six-wheeled surface vehicle they travel toward the "middle of nowhere". These specified coordinates where sent to the colony from "some honch in a cushy office on Earth", namely Burke, who by no means tells them what to expect. During the trip we hear Newt brag about her agility in the tunnel game at the colony, which will mean life and death to her later on.
Mom and Dad slap on some goggles and head inside the alien spacecraft. On the return, Dad seems to have acquired a somewhat uncomfortable looking creature attached to the side of his face. When next we see Newt, she has transgressed back down the evolutionary ladder into an animal like frightened child when the Marines finally find her. She miraculously survived the arrival and battle of the aliens against the colonists. She realizes what she is up again and doesn't even trust the Marines to bring her out safely. Her parents are dead, and she believes there is no hope for anyone else who arrives on the planet.
  • "Everybody's dead OK!? Can I go now!?"
From Ripley's view, Newt is like the child that she lost. While in the cryotube land of hypersleep, her daughter grew old and died two years before her return. Newt is about the same age as her daughter was when she left (approximately 12 years old), and therefore develops special feelings towards Newt. With this feeling, Ripley gives Newt the locator band that had been given to her from Hicks, in case anything happens. Ripley still believes Newt is alive thinking of her as her daughter, and therefore heads (fully-armed) into the hive to save her. After discovering her amidst a cluster of eggs, Ripley pulls Newt out and begins leave, only to run into the Queen alien. The battle is fierce, yet Ripley manages to clutch onto Newt.
They barely make it to the elevator in time with the queen snapping as the door closed. Now they were safe... until arriving at the platform level only to realize that Bishop had left. How could he leave?! We were so close! They notice the second elevator arriving toward they're level. This isn't right, that elevator should still be at the sublevel... where's Bishop dammit!! Ripley holds Newt tight, telling here to close her eyes, as the door opens and the menacing queen emerges. Nooooo...., but at that second, Newt looks up to see the drop-ship hovering into view... they were saved.
Ripley and Newt quickly climb up into the safety of the drop ship and Bishop sends them out of there, missing the nuclear explosion. Unfortunately the queen had attached herself to the landing gear of the drop ship, waiting until the arrive upon the Sulaco to release herself. Bishop is torn in half and Ripley notices the queen closing in on Newt. She quickly yells at the beast to attract attention to herself. She then takes off past the pressure door escaping the queen. Undaunted, the queen studies her situation and attempted to snatch Newt from underneath the flooring. However, Newt is still as quick as ever, darting in and around the understructure beneath the queen. She managed to survive long enough for Ripley to return with the Power Loader, ready to deal with the queen.
During Ripley's battle, she manages to toss the queen into the outer hatch. Ripley opens the hulls outer door, allowing the queen to get sucked into the airless void of space, and just about everything else that isn't nailed down. Newt can't get a good hold as she is pulled toward the hatch, but the remains of Bishop get a quick hold hold her and save her from the cold suction. The battle is over, they have won. Newt can now sleep and dream... dream without fear of monsters...but, only to never wake again.
