Guess those elements crept subreptiously from the back of my brain???
I actually had Amon Tobin's Sordid track in my mind as an inspiration while making it

oh dear.. back to the drawing board? :( Too close for comfort? What you guys say?

I didn't say it was bad, it has potential. I just pointed out that it reminded me those two prodge tunes. I guess that would be a complement.

It's hard to say "no sampling" at all. Liam has never written a tune in his life that wasn't sampled from somewhere else. I think the main point BK is trying to make is it's not supposed to be a Prodigy-clone album and we don't want some blatant "Kanye West" sampled tunes of well known tracks.

What about a sound clip of speaking taken from a tv show?

i think i get it here with the samples.

Tim said we can't be like prodigy clones meaning we use the same samples as what liam used or actually make samples from prodigy tunes.

Tim also says we can't be like kanye west and i know what he means here, we can't take an obvious sample from a tune, like somthing like daft punks, stronger harder faster tune and then make a song based on that song.

tv samples i'd say is ok, as long as its not somthing like the simpsons or somthing we would all reconise is ok.

Chopped up and highly edited beats from a tune that aint all prodigy would be aloud to i'd say.

the list goes on. i think thats how its ment to be

I really think he means no vocal/melody loopsampling from anywhere. Make everything yourself (mic and whatever).
But drums I agree should be okay, as long as its worked to the bone...

Well, think about it like this:

Say you use a copyrighted sample that no one recognizes, and this album ends up being available commercially. Then suddenly the original copyright owners knocks on BK's door saying "we didn't allow that sample to be used, according to law you must pay us xx thousand dollars, because you are making money with our property". So ask yourself: is this sample really so essential that I want to risk that, or can I work around it?

A general rule of thumb is, the more obscure the source, the less chance of the above happening. And by obscure source I mean for example from a porn movie or a short educational film from 1957 or similar. But you'd never know.

However, BK said NO samples AT ALL. So use nothing from TV, movies, music releases, internet releases, radio and live recordings.

But what if I really mess up the sample, so it's totally unrecognizable?

It doesn't matter. The same laws apply.
A similar example: Even if no one knows you're downloading pirated movies, you're still breaking the law. And if it's discovered you're held accountable for it.

But what about this awesome breakbeat from this 70's track, can't I use that?

No. The same laws apply. However this is where I don't give a fuck. I need my old funky breakbeats, else I can't work. And if that means I'm out of the competition, so be it. But I believe drums are not considered samples, cause every drumkit have too similar sounds and rhythms to be distinguishable. In the end, you really can't say if I sampled the drums, or had a friendly drummer record it. That's my opinion anyhow.
