FREE MUSIC MASTERCLASSES by five of the UK’s top session players at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Fancy a career playing alongside the top names in music? Five of the UK’s top session musicians are delivering masterclasses on Saturday August 30 at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM)**, Manchester.

Talking to Paul Moran, Dane Chalfin, Jim Davies, Nic France and Stevie Williams* you too can find out what its really like to work with George Michael, Dave Gilmour, The Prodigy, Van Morrison and the Scissor Sisters. The day is also a chance to find out all about the new Popular Music Practice (Session Musician) Foundation Degree and its feeder course, which the RNCM is launching this September in partnership with music training specialists Access to Music (ATM)***.

The day is suitable for musicians (guitar, bass, drums, keys, voice) aged 16+ who are serious about a career in music. Parents and guardians are also welcome to attend.

Masterclasses will be held in: guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals, plus a rhythm workshop.

The Foundation Degree for would-be session musicians is the only one of its kind in the UK situated within a major conservatoire, and the course will accept its first students in September 2008.

The course provides vocational training for high-level musicians (aged 18 and over) who intend to work as session/freelance musicians in all areas of music outside of the classical music sector. As well as intensive weekly one-on-one instrumental sessions with top professionals, students will also learn valuable business and entrepreneurial skills.

ATM is also launching a 10-week session musician Pre-Foundation Course, which runs from late September until March 2009, and will prepare musicians aged 16+ for a place on the Foundation Degree.

MASTERCLASSES & OPEN DAY for Popular Music Practice (Session Musician) Foundation Degree and Session Musician Pre-Foundation Academy, RNCM, 124 OXFORD RD, MANCHESTER SATURDAY 30 AUGUST 2008 10.30am - 15.15pm. For more details and a schedule phone freephone 0800 28 18 42 or email info@accesstomusic.co.uk

If I understand right it means that
With those five guys You can feel like working with The Prodigy (because of Jim Davies in our case). Still may be interesting.

My sister works for the RCM, could be interesting or could just be very boring unless you have a real love of more tradtional instruments but cant see you learning much about theprodigy

My old graphic design tutor worked at the Unknown back in the 90s and designed a lot of XL recordings sleeves... but i never learnt anything about the Prodigy from him!

Years ago I saw on TV a report about Tricky, visiting schools and talk to the kids about recreation and music production. Small elements of a music production need to get more attention. He had a little drum-computer an gave it to one of those pupils and after he got it back he listens to the creations, the pupils done and was very impressed by some beats....

...maybe this is something similar to that ??? Along with Liam !
