low synth does me good in the bass department, that may not be the best but it thrills my need for bass so i'll take that

While we're on the subject of technical details, I'm not sure you have group'ed the types quite correct.

What you call "808 style boomkick" is better known as "the drop" using Liams terms. This is the style where the bass starts at a high pitch and then slides until it reaches a low pitch bass. SMBU and Molotov Bitch does not use "The Drop", they simply use a bass "stab" which is layered on top of the kick/bassdrum. Examples of tracks using "the drop" are:
-Wind it up (rewound)
-Firestarter
-Narayan
-BGAT
-No Good

I'm not sure what you mean about "no main bass". Voodoo People has strickly speaking the same "type" of bass as SMBU: a "stab" bass which is layered on top of the 909-kickdrum (although the bass in Voodoo is not as loud as in SMBU ;). The bass in Voodoo is turned on and off at different parts of the track.
Their Law has a quite bass heavy bassdrum (eq+reverb i guess), in addition to some bass stabs (which does not have the "kick"), to create it's KILLER drum/bassline.

Many of the Experience tracks uses a combination of hip-hop bass samples which are played at different pitch'es layered on top of other basslines, and some 808 bass. This creates the "wobbly" (or floating bass) effect that some of those tracks have. For example Jerich has a "lfo" controlled sinus-bass, in addition to 808 bassdrums.

My favourite type of bass totally depends on the track, and the way the bass works together with the other (bass heavy) elements of a track. Also, it is dependent on WHERE you play the track, what the stereo/speakers are like, and where you are standing in respect to the speakers etc. A "stab" type bass can have a lot of impact in certain scenarios, but sound very "flat" in others. A "drop" type bass will often (because it uses a wide frequency band in the low end), sound good in almost any situation.

Anyway, enough rambling from me

I like the drop he uses in beats, mostly in SMBU and Minefields, that milisecond drop between beats where it hangs then kicks back in

perfect

Liam can drop anything, anytime, anywhere as far as I am concerned. "The drop" is epic.

On another note (sidetopic?) My favorite track (just discussing the bass here) would be The Trick. It might seem simple but it just does it for me. And every time I play it I know my very annoying downstairs neighbors can FEEL The Prodigy. I dunno if it's just the song itself, my stereo configuration or what but when I play that song at even medium volume it shakes the rafters like nothing else.

breathe

u didn't mention about it. which style is it ? i think it's psykosomatic :)

to be more precise - i love that vibrating bassy 'something' which is buzzing and buzzing under all the other sounds.
and of course it plays the main role during the breakdown. the way how is that sound portioned and dosed, is a masterpiece. breathe would never had such an atmosphere without it

@nekrobot: not everybody here are musicans, or even know 'proper' musical terms. but does it mean we cannot post anything about prodigys sounds analysis' ? come on man, it's fun!

I miss the tunes that would start the beat with a massive "boom". From a stab, 808 or a simple sub-bass.

Tracks like Woodoo Beats!! The beat is just massive!
