Hi,

I live in the US so there is not a whole lot of people that know who the Prodigy are here where I live, so I would just like to tell you all something that I cant really tell anyone here.

Im a Prodigy fan, like most of you, but not in the traditional sense. i dont collect posters or all the cds, in fact i only have 2 of theirs. i havent even been a Prodigy show before. but the prodigy have been really life changing for me, and i didnt realize it until a few days ago.
i first found out about the prodigy when i was going through some of my dads cds. im gonna be completely honest when i say that i was 6 at the time and the only two bands i knew about were the backstreet boys and nsync. i was going through these records when i found one that was orange. i think it was called MTV's amp (or amped, i cant really remember the cd is long gone). i pulled it out and popped it into my cd player. it was the most awful thing i had ever heard so i put it away. a few months later i pulled it back out but started on another song. this song was block rockin beats by the chemical brothers. this cd was infact entirely electronic music, and the first i had ever heard of the genre. it was amazing. the next song was voodoo people by the prodigy (chemical brother remix). this was even better. after a while i had put down the cd and moved on to other artists (multigenre). i could never really stick with one though.

then i think i was like 10 and i saw charlies angels. yes i discovered the prodigy through this movie. the scene with the thin man where they play smack my bitch up. i thought it was the coolest song but i couldnt find it. (this was before itunes by the way). i checked the soundtrack, the website, i just could not find it. i went through the credits to see the artists, and thats when i saw THE PRODIGY under one of the songs. ha! i hadnt seen that name in ages! so i went to best buy and looked for it. sure enough, they had fat of the land (also, not known to me at the time, always outnumbered sitting in front of it). i bought the album (it was difficult to buy because 1.)it was my first album and 2.) it had shit and bitch on the back, but i begged my dad, and he finally let me.) the album was awesome. everysong was different yet unique. smack was great, breath was full of energy, diesel power left me speechless, and more and more. during middle school when i got an iPod, i would sneak headphones through my sleeve to listen to fat of the land on repeat during tests. without it i dont think i would pass those classes believe it or not haha. i listened to alot of other things though, but nothin could compare to that album. i told my dad that i really liked it and he went out and bought me the greatest hits album. this was huge. i had NEVER heard anything from the prodigy outside of TFOTL. i wasnt even born around the rave scenes so their old tunes was completely new stuff for me. it was around this time that Itunes cames out and i started buying prodigy from every era, from Experience to Always Out. it was just amazing how unique every song was.

now, im 16. yes i am very young. i cautiously await the new album. i dont think i have ever been this excited over anything in my life. i check this forum everyday now since like a month ago for any news that appears. i said the prodigy changed my life and i meant it. because of them, i want to be a musician. i already have put together a small very low budget studio in my bedroom. am i good? absoulty no. i dont think it will ever go anywhere, but its something i love to do. i have my whole life planned out because of music. if i had not picked that orange cd all those years ago, i dont know where i would be. listening to the prodigy changed my life.

ive never been to one of their shows
nor a rave
i only own one of their studio cds
but i am a fan.

Thanks Liam, Maxim, and of course Keef

-Jmac

While I wouldn't say The Prodigy have changed my life, they definitely have had such an influence on my music. So much too the point where some people have said my songs sound like The Prodigy... not unbelievable, but when you consider I'm in an indie rock band, well.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Parallel story to mine, mate. Forum slang aside, I'm from Florida. Never met a "huge" Prodigy fan ever, but everyone my age remembers "Breathe" and "Firestarter," so when I tell them they're my favorite band, they at least know who I'm talking about.

Pretty much the same deal for me. I had just started freshman year in high school, knew almost all of the other 2000 students but very few really knew me. I always preferred to do my own thing. And before high school I had never even LISTENED to music. A little No Doubt here, a little Dr. Dre + Method Man there. Nothing major. And then one day, bored in FYE, I bought Fat of the Land because I remembered loving the "Breathe" video when I was maybe 10-11 years old.

And it f*cking blew my mind. From the :52 second mark of "Smack My Bitch Up" to the most amazing transition ever ("Narayan" to "Firestarter")...it was amazing. For 3 years I listened to that album at least one a week. I ended up going backwards, to Jilted, then to Experience. And the rest is history. I was so amped when AONO came out, having just graduated high school and looking for some great music to motivate me for college...well, it was kind of a letdown. But now I look at this way, Liam had to get all those LOUD SOUNDS out of his head so he could think straight. And IMD has got me excited for the first time in years.

Fat of the Land set a trend in me that has never stopped. It gave me an appreciation for good music, no matter what the genre. I've bounced between hip-hop (rap, southern, west coast, old school), dance (house, trance, DRUM & F*CKING BASS, electro), rock (metal, nu metal, alternative, indie), classical (Beethooooven in the house), spanish (reggaeton, spanish reggae, typico), ANY and EVERYTHING.

Having now spent time around the world in foreign countries, the impact FOTL had on me has stuck. I will always have that rebel/independent attitude, and an openness and appreciation for everyone and everything in this world. I can't thank the Prodigy for all of that, but listening to FOTL at such an impressionable age...the seeds were definitely planted.

Fucking Prodigy 'til I DIE. Cheers to that.[/i]
