sure thing jungle vibes i'll disagree with u to change your mind

liam uses the two laptops to trigger off certain parts of the tunes, if u have many live versions of action radar or hotride u can notice it because they all have different times of when things kick in, also in a few they get mixed in with the previous tune, basicly its liams new toy to triggering off the parts of songs and its much easier as well but at the same time it aint just a case of pushing play and thats it.

i listen to many of the old recordings and i have millions of them too, i've played keyboard since i was five and im a major fan of liam and his live keyboard work, i don't have many at all old gigs that play live keyboards, apart from the climbatize horns liam sampled on to one of his synths when minefields came on and throughout the BGAT and AONO era.

the new stuff for live keyboards is amazing, its the best buzz for me, liam goes pretty nuts with the keyboards in 2006 and early 2007's he comes up with some really good stuff when he plays the synths live, i remember a poll on here about everyones favourite era, i voted for the 05 to 07 era just simply because of liams live play, he got rid of the old stuff and came in with laptops, liam himself was really paranoid about going on stage with laptops instead of all his samplers etc, but once it was about late 2005 he turned it round and got really fucking good with live play, and he's fucking good at it, not because he's liam fucking howlett but because he learns music by ear, he can hear the track, then add extra bits on through synths with ease, anyone who knows how to play by ear know it, i used to have mental days when i'd sit in the house when everyones gone and switch a couple synths on and play extra bits and chords into prodigy tracks hahaha.

but honestly he's not doing it because he's so fucking lazy lol, he done it for the flexibilty of it, being able to let the fans hear the track differently than what they would on the cd, to give an extra vibe and more a punch.

i want you to watch this video if u have time mate, concintrate on liam and the live play, this live recording is by far one of the greatest live playing i've seen from him, its prauge 2006 and the live play starts before the tune !!

but liams live play with voodoo people on this recording is the fucking best, if you aint happy bout what your hearing at the start (their law & firestarter) then voodoo people will certainly tell u what i mean bout fucking good live play, and in this vid, you need to remember he has to control all the volumes and maxim and keiths mic effects, and also you only see liam at his laptop when theres nothing playing, because he's loading up SMBU

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 1686969148

and i hope this aint too much a read, i know many people can't be bothered reading all this, and yeah liam is lazy but with live play he usually aint now adays, hope i switched u to my side with the gear mate :P
acutally, it's the deal in electronic music: You can't play everything like a rock band can do. And even if he plays dat or laptop song, he plays additionnal instruments live.
I was really septic about the live playing of Liam, but it's when i saw Mick Harris live i understood the deal: you just "play" a track, a skeleton of track, and then you use the mix desk as an instrument, and add layers.
On the prague show, Liam is crazy, play a lot of sounds and a lot of false note

now i'll try to explain the thing about not playing the old old stuff, liam did play some of the popular things back in late 05 and early 06 in the uk and in tokyo, some remixes of the old unreleased stuff would be pretty shit hot of course, but i think liams trying to build up the new fans from all across the place for this new album, if liams got the world on his side his albums gonna be number 1, playing the old old stuff live like everybody in the place and gabba would be great for the people up there at the front, but liam and the bands new look doesn't go either and im sure for most people going to a prodigy gig for the first time would find it old sounding, gabba wasn't ment for live drums and a guitar, the same with EBINP but at the same time it would be fucking awesome if liam did play them but i think this new style they've got means from this year onword there not going back into the past but i bet they will still play firestarter and smack my bitch up and most likley their law, but a new version of wake the fuck up would be good to kick off the new intro

I get your point. I think you're right on the Gabba issue... BUT, and that's no offense: make sentences if you want to tell us something... It's a hell through read through a big lump of words if there's no interpunction (like dots and commas. logical sentences). Those are key elements you simply need if you want others to read this rather good point you just made (in an aweful way).
I agree some stuff just got old and wouldn't fit in with the newer material they're playing. I mean, if a setlist contains two, maybe three, of those oldies, that's fine... but looking at all the new material it's best to play all those instead.

I'd be going fucking mental if they'd play Full Throttle again since .... fucking '97 !!!

The only oldie that would ever make me feel like I'm on a rollercoaster about to make the loop the whole time ! :)

yeah linking old stuff in could work sometimes, i hope there going back to their old one hour 20 to 30 minute setlists again like back in 05 and early 06, i mean by next year action radar link is gonna be gone can sense it the new version aint half as much as the old linked version, not even quarter as much, was the only disappointment to me during academy gigs, your love worked out pretty good but if he done more work with it or added some new links in (he technically already has with that minefields remix/link/fill whatever you want to call it) but yeah my personal feelings are that were going to hear more new tracks next year and less of the old but the usual firestarter and smack my bitch up and poison and perhaps spitfire (hell knows just a hunch) but every era consists of its own live only tracks, im looking forward to experiencing the stuff liam wrote but never put out for release on any single or album etc in next years gigs

They're back in the game man... IMD can't be the fucking last one

And we'll definitely get some new live tracks after the new album ... at least I hope.

I was talking to their FOH guy after the Adelaide BDO & he swears Liam IS playing parts live.

They take 4-6 sends off the laptops & this can include Liams live parts.

They were forced to retire the W30's because Liam broke all the keys & Roland don't have any left ( shiiiiiiit I got 2 W30's ) & if you don't believe me check out the photos of his old Prophecy

They now run controller boards because its cheaper & easier to replace when Liam breaks them & obviously that means more of the live play in parts are coming off VST's on the laptops.

Just to be subjective for a second: I do/did prefer the old skool days. Watching Liam geek out over a laptop is less entertaining then watching him panic over loading W30's & worrying about what chan the Nord or JP were on. but what can you do?

oh, i think sometimes the guitar isnt even feeding thru ableton, just the sample, its way less noticeable than when gizz was playing.

im learning how to use Ableton now and i gotta say it can be difficult at times, it a learning curve so fair play to Liam for putting in the effort to update from the old methods playing live.
