THE Prodigy have been crowned the most influential act of their genre in a new poll.
The band, who have been blending rock with techno and drum and bass to create their unique sound for two decades, topped the survey by inspiring dance lovers with hits including Firestarter and Voodoo People.
Officials from the GlobalGathering festival - now in its tenth year - commissioned the research to find out which artist has shaped the dance genre the most.
A spokesman said The Prodigy, who have had more than 20 million worldwide record sales, had to beat off stiff competition from French electronic duo Daft Punk.
GlobalGathering festival organiser James Algate said: "Dance music is constantly evolving but it's great to see The Prodigy getting the recognition they so richly deserve."
The band received 29 per cent of the vote from the poll, which questioned 2,000 festival and club goers.
Daft Punk came in second place and Faithless were in third place with 11 per cent. Other acts in the top 10 include Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers and Carl Cox.
The electronic dance festival sees around 50,000 music lovers descend on Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, each year. Faithless and Dizzee Rascal are set to headline this year's event on July 30 and 31.

Beautiful - and well deserved. I can see the other names on the top ten were some of my personal favorites too, pretty nice choices in my opinion, hehe
...and nice to read something positive about Prodigy after the shit reviews they got from the incompetent danish music reviewers who were at Roskilde Festival! |

i heard from friends very good comments from people that they went on gig in serbia some days ago, and from forums that they was good. i think only on reading festival, fest organizers turn of the power cause they was late a bit ;p
there is no need to defend them.they make concerts from 80's. its the site that loose its reability, not the band |

| I guess The Prodigy deserve this considering they've been around since 1990 or so, but yeah... The Chemical Brothers are better. |

Not really, the Chemical Brothers have been shit recently.
Their live shows/lights might be spectacular but noway in hell do they capture the same energy as The one and only Prodigy |

the chemical brothers had one and half good albums, the rest were dogshit, and live they come no where near the prodigy, i can think of a lot more artists more influential than the chem brothers who also come no where the prodigy |

The Chemical Brothers only really have two 'bad' albums, Push the Button and We Are the Night, though they had some good tracks. I mean come on, people bag AONO all the time and I think it's great, dare I say better than IMD? Well, they're very different.
Also, the Chem Bros latest album Further is better than IMD, though completely different.
The first three Chem Bros albums are insanely good, and the fourth - Come With Us - is pretty good.
I cannot do a live comparison because I haven't seen either of the two bands live. I am however seeing the Chem Bros in March because they're coming to Australia. |
