im not fully up on sampling copyright and how much of a sample u can use before u have to get permission, but surely just look at the sleeve and look at the samples used, or can u rework something without getting permission etc,,, it seems people are coming up with samples for TMTTH when there are just 2 samples, pepe deluxe and asher d being the artists...have i missed something?

you haven't missed anything.
if they had sampled the chems they would've been credited...
...jetsonik112 is just drunk or something

You have to ask for permission when you use 'a substantial sample' of somebody elses work. The word substantial doesn't necessarily length of time of the sample, but rather that the sample used is distinguishable as a particular author's work. Copyright also exists in two forms: the performance copyright - actual musical material (the melody/pattern/lyrics) and the mechanical copyright - the actual physical sound recording. That's why some elements have had to be re-recorded or recreated, such as rasta peace song in Thunder and the beat in The Way It Is (Liam wasn't allowed to directly sample it from Michael Jackson) in order to bypass the mechanical copyright and only paying for performance copyright. Hope this helps you out a little...

Michael Jackson doesnt own the rights to thriller
so wouldnt imagine it cost that much
there was also another dance track that used similar samples

It's probably just a standard preset loop or something..
It's definately the same sample though.

i think i read something in an interview about this thriller thingy.
was something like they've spent hours (lian & neil), or even days in the studio trying to recreate that part cos it would have cost to much to sample it straight off the record.

Don't think it's sampled... would have been too cheap to base your album title, and title track on a sample in my eyes.
