Heard on another forum that Liam used a Roland JD-990 for the lead sounds on Voodoo People n was just wondering whether anyone knew the patch that he used?
Theres some examples of some of the patches here ... http://www.synthmania.com/jd-990.htm ... and the only 2 that sound like they 'could' be it are the '15 DistSynChorus' and '17 Slow Sync Lead'

Anyone know any details on this?

Thanks in advance

I owned a JD-990 with the SR-JV80-04 expansion board (sold it last year).

I can't really remember how the patch is called that was used for Voodoo People, but it's in there (for sure). Almost the default patch and for what I can remenber, it's in the standard JD-990 without an expansion board

On that expansion board is a patch called "EML Wobbler", which was used for the opening on Poison.

According to Liam on www.sonicplug.com:

"I use the JD-990 on every track I do. I used it on the opening of Poison and everyone said 'Aw - where did you get that sound?' It was one of my own sounds that I modified. I used it on Voodoo People for the main riff."

My ass, own sound. Maybe a very little altered but almost straight the default patch "EML Wobbler"

Furthermore, there's a patch on the expansion board called "RSS Spinner" which was used for that spacey sci-fi sound at the and of 3 Kilos. (Again, virtually the default patch, not much altered/tweaked)

Sample: http://www.synthmania.com/Roland%20SR-JV80-04%20Vintage%20Synth/Audio/255%20RSS%20Spinner.mp3

For the Voodoo People lead it may be interesting to take a look at this:

Play the Adam van Baker soundset Part two and skip to second 140.

Liam uses presets all the time.. (nothing wrong with that)..

The main acidline in Smack My Bitch Up comes straight from a preset on the Korg Prophecy. And Funky Shit is allmost a demo of the Nord Lead 2 synth.

Yeh i know, to be honest im the same, most of the time its; find a preset, tweak it a bit, use it. But i always thought liam was one that was into his synths n always created his own sounds

I'm sure he does if he dont have the sound he wants on a preset or inn his sample collection. Just because he uses presets sometimes doesnt mean that he dont know how to program sounds on a synth.. Come on. Its Liam himself we are talking about. :-D
