Ok, your post might be the stupidest in this discussion so far!

Just fyi

One can be political in a million other ways than "starting a revolution, assassinating a president".

As soon as you state your opinion, what ever it is you are being political. In the jilted generation era The Prodigy was political as hell! Have you read the inlay of the One Love single, that's a political statement. The inlay art in Music for the Jilted Generation album is a political statement, whether they say it or not.

Image

How many political parties starts revolutions or kills presidents? Aren't they political?

...and no musician is really political? what the fuck is Bono doing then? Rage Against the Machine, System of A Down, Asian Dub Foundation, Atari Teenage Riot? (hehe)

...I mean, fuck! If you wear a t-shirt saying "legalize it" you're making a political statement.

but you're not sure. it either is or it isn't. don't sit on the fence now. i won't bite! you have to be sure of yourself if you want to argue.

the sentence actually continued 'or DOING something political'. seemed to have got lost somewhere when you were writing the reply. shame really, because without those last 4 words the meaning of the sentence is completely different. that was unfortunate!

ermmm...... does that mean if i say 'i like the sound of running water', i'm being political? you might want to think over what you said there. it's a bit of a meaningless generalization.

yes i did read it, as did many other people i know. and the picture was a classic of it's time. the trouble was that we all agreed with it. we felt it was by people like us, for people like us. it didn't actually change anything or anyone. sort of like having a poster of a beautiful woman on the wall of your prison cell. makes you feel good to see it, but the overlying reality's the same.

they interpreted our feelings, but didn't actually get anything done (unfortunately). i think we were all too busy having a good time raving to get anything together. that period's all a bit hazy you see. i've got to admit, i never once punched the air and said, 'that was as political as fuck that tune'. more along the lines of 'gis a go on your water mate', and 'feel the rush, come on'. (the second quote is keith being political)

this is a bit of a strange sentence, but i think i understand what you're trying to say here. you mean political parties that DON'T start revolutions or kill presidents are political, right?

quite a few actually. we had one over here in ukraine a short while back. you might have seen it on the telly. in fact, there seem to have been a lot of revolutions throughout the whole world in human history. i notice you live in america. i think there have been a couple of assassinations of presidents there haven't there?

you do have a point though. not all political parties start revolutions or kill presidents. only the successful ones. i've never heard of a political party that wants to continue the status quo and be ruled by the current head of government. the phrase 'new world order' and a dead president called saddam also spring to mind as examples of revolution and assassination in our time.

now i know you're just playing a joke on me! you don't really believe that bono and the rest are really political do you? he's the biggest ego massaging wanker on the planet! the guy sucks more than anyone has ever sucked in the history of suckidom. i could be wrong though. apart from putting on music concerts and giving tax deductable donations, what have they done to change things? maybe i just wasn't watching? they might be presented in such a way that gullible teenagers in america believe they're radical world changers, but in the rest of the world we see them for who they are. musicians. and very good at it they are too! (it would be a terrible thing if politicians tried to be musicians!)

we've been through all this before in 85 with live aid. musicians get together to save their failing careers, everyone goes to a concert and has a good time, money is donated and put into projects created by westerners, project fails because no-one asked the local people how their lives would best be improved (check out the reports. it's well shocking), local people continue suffering, musician stays in the public eye and makes more music.

erm... no. you're just a dude wearing a t-shirt. if i wear a t-shirt with 'E=mc2' on it, does that mean i'm a nuclear scientist?

sorry for the length, but i found your reply very thought provoking.

wow! I can't believe you're actually trying to convince us you were of age at the time mftjg came out, cos judging by this post I would say you're about 14 years old now which means you were barely born when that album was released.

Anyways...even if you or anybody else acted on it or cared about it is completely irrelevant, it's still political.

Here's a definition of political for you

po·lit·i·cal (p-lt-kl)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or dealing with the structure or affairs of government, politics, or the state.
2. Relating to, involving, or characteristic of politics or politicians: "Calling a meeting is a political act in itself" Daniel Goleman.
3. Relating to or involving acts regarded as damaging to a government or state: political crimes.
4. Interested or active in politics: I'm not a very political person.
5. Having or influenced by partisan interests: The court should never become a political institution.
6. Based on or motivated by partisan or self-serving objectives: a purely political decision.

I like the sound of running water - political statement wherever there's water shortage

Legalize it - political statement wherever marijuana is illegal

E = MC^2 - political statement like fuck! not every one believes the theory of relativity you know...

"Everything is politics" - Thomas Mann

...you're just not mature enough to realize that yet.

And yeah, your previous post isn't the stupidest one in this topic...but this last one of yours definitely is.

Had to move it off topic when there's a kid boasting about what's political and not without even knowing what the word "political" means!

...and stating that somebody sucks cock just proves even more of immature and unintelligent this person is.

i don't why you've got so wound up about all this really. it's just a philosophical chat. and quite an interesting one really. couple of points though.....

1. i'm 36. get your facts right.
2. copying and pasting quotes from literature and the dictionary doesn't tell me anything about what you actually think.
3. attacking the person instead of attacking his argument is one of the most fallacious arguments there is.
4. you're right. saying bono sucks was immature. he's a pretentious egomaniac with dubious personal motives for championing the poor.
5. saying 'it is because i say so' isn't an argument i'm afraid.

you seem a sound geezer from what other people say, and i reckon if we were in a bar having a couple of drinks we'd probably have a good drunken talk, putting the world to rights. it says in your profile: occupation - alcoholic, so i know you'd be up for the idea!.

how about we shake on this and agree to differ? it's probably all very boring for anyone having to read our drivel! we're both at home in this forum, so there's probably more similarities between us that you'd realise.

*extends hand of friendship*

agree to disagree sounds good to me.

Budmo! ...or Na zdorov'ya if you will :)

I still find this an interesting topic though, see no need for it to be locked.

hahaha - nice direction taken!

I see things like that:
Alec VS Liam - Liam is just too smart (or lazy if you want) and he'd probaly send Maxim in the battle cause he's tough enough. In the very end of the match Keith will finish Alec Empire with a FATALITY or BRUTALITY. :!:

I wouldn't say Empire sucks, I'd place some of his tracks far over some Prodigy tracks and that's saying alot from me because I love Prodigy's work!
