  09.05.2004 - Aono Round up

The new prodigy album is finished! We got 11 possibly 12 fist in the air traks . it sounds sinister, electronic, trashy, sexy and fresh to my ears. this album is about reminding people what the prodigy was always about---the beats and the music. the vocals on this record are mostly used as an extension of the sound rather than the main focal point.

Like Jilted , Keef and Maxim were'nt involved musically and they are not on this album. ALL 3 of us will be together to do what we do and play this record live and rock it later in the year, we cant fukin wait! you will probably begin to hear stuff early summer and the new album will hit in august. yeah -- more news to follow soon. (Liam statement to fansite nekozine.co.uk)

  COLLABORATIONS

.

SOUTH - Janice Long on BBC radio 2 interviewed South and Joel from the band was talking about a track he did with Liam for the new Prodigy album. (http://www.south.uk.net)

KOOL KEITH - Taken from www.koolkeith.co.uk: "I worked Liam [Howlett]. He sent me a track from Prodigy, which is a track that I rapped on. That was his own production I'm sure. Liam has the money to own his own equipment to say he produced me, which is true because I rapped on Prodigy's record. I participated in one of the songs they got coming out called, um, it's a hot song. I forgot the name of it. It's hot, I rapped on it. It's one of the top songs. "
"Wake Up is a big song. Its one of the biggest songs I did. Proper production. They are back on point again. Everything is on point. So, that's what I've done. I worked with H. Me and him collaborated on some things. "

JULIETTE LEWIS - Taken from NME: New Prodigy's album will have a special guest: Juliette Lewis. The english band -from years at work for the follow up album of FOTL - collaboreted with the Hollywood-actress in TWO tracks included in the album. It seems that the meeting between the band and Lewis happened in a bar in L.A., in which the actress -singer in once's spare time- usually appears. Keith Flint & co. were so struck from her voice that immediately proposed her an engagement A friend of Juliette says to the SUN "The guys are enthusiast about recordings with Juliette". "She sings very well and she will give a lot of publicity to the band" The curiosity is uncontrollable, at this point!

TWISTA - What has switched up some is the type of artist Twist is collaborating with. He has a song out now with the quiet-as-of-late group the Prodigy. "They been chilling like me, putting together an album, and now they about to bust on the scene," Twista said Friday about a cut called "I Hate You" that he recorded for the group's upcoming LP. "It's crazy that we would have something in common [like lying low for a while] and hook up together and bust back out. That track is off the chain. Wait till you hear it."

LIAM GALLAGHER - The dance band wanted a more rocky sound for the yet to be named song and Gallagher was the obvious choice for the Prodigy star LIAM HOWLETT.
The pair have become close mates through the APPLETON sisters — the Oasis frontman lives with NICOLE while Howlett is dating NATALIE — and their collaboration could be released as a single. The track will feature on the band’s new album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned to be released in the summer. Howlett has hinted that fans can expect less focus on samples and more on vocals on the CD.
Gallagher admits: I’ve done something with The Prodigy and it might come out as a single. It’s a tune we wrote together and Liam asked me to sing part of it. It’s great. “I hate dance stuff but this is a really good rock and roll song. “It was a good song for me to sing and I wasn’t told how to do it. I did it my way. Gallagher has also recorded the song Scorpio Rising with DEATH IN VEGAS. (source: thesun.co.uk)

PERRY FARRELL - Liam said in an interview with Q that he's working on a track with Perry Farrell for the new album. There was supposed to be a collaboration with Perry Farrell already on The Fat of the Land, but it never happened because of clashing tourschedules .

He has not been mentioned later in the interviews that Liam did.

3D DEL NAJA FROM MASSIVE ATTACK - Liam has done a collaboration with 3D from Massive Attack. They have done a song called 'No Souvenirs'. 3D has said following about the song: "Liam and I had been talking about doing something together for about a year and then we did a track each for a porn film called ‘The Uranus Experiment’. Liam knew Alex Garland who wrote ‘The Beach’ and Liam suggested that he did the music and I wrote some lyrics for a song to go on the film’s soundtrack. The track is called ‘No Souvenirs’ and is slightly Pink Floyd; slightly Beach Boys in places; full-on dark but very musical with some great arrangements. But in the end, we felt it wasn’t appropriate for the soundtrack album. The rest of the album was too dance and pop-orientated so we pulled it. It might end up as a track on the next Prodigy album."

DAN 'THE AUTOMATOR' NAKAMURA - Liam has also collaborated with Dan 'The Automator' Nakamura, a legendary hip hop producer who recently was involved with Damon Albarn's Gorillaz project. Nakamura has said: "I was helping work out a mix for their record. Maybe it's the single, I don't know."

Apparently this collaboration has been corfirmed by a spokeperson of the Prodigy.

  REASON

.

Liam talking to Proppelerheads software, creators of Reason:
" About 2 years ago I started working again, but soon realized I needed to shift myself out of the formula I’d gotten into from working in the same environment all the time. I’d written everything in Cubase from 1993 onwards, with a bunch of hardware synths and Akai samplers as my main setup. I sat down and I thought, “well... this is just so boring. How can I ever get inspired doing the same old thing? How am I gonna write a fresh, inspired album? I’m not enjoying it, it’s not going anywhere, I hate my studio, I hate all the equipment in it.”

For a man with a hardware gear list the size of a small town phone directory, that’s a lot of equipment to hate. Liam’s winding road through the world of music making is one which many of his generation can relate to; he started out with a simple 4-track portastudio and turntables in the 1980’s, soon got into synthesizers, and eventually found himself using a Roland W-30 workstation with a whopping 16 seconds worth of sampling time. The entire first album, The Prodigy Experience, was created on just this one keyboard. As the royalties started rolling in, so did the gear – and soon enough Liam found himself immersed in a machine park with enough electronics to fill a space cruiser. But, as anyone who’s been-there-done-that will know, that can be more of a curse than a blessing.

What got you back on track again?
– I bought myself a laptop, which completely reanimated my creative process because I was able to write anywhere I went. At one point someone told me to check out this program Reason, “it’s really back to basics, you should check it out just for fun, you know?” So I did – I started out just writing beats on it and approached it in a sort of recreational sense, like you would a computer game. Then I’d go off somewhere like Scotland or New York and I’d take my laptop with me, with all my samples on the hard drive... and then it all just started happening. Reason was just like... it totally refreshed me, it was just amazing. It was like going back to how it was in the beginning. All of a sudden I was writing two or three songs a week, just messing around and having a laff again. I started something with it and got it rocking in ten minutes. That took a lot of pressure off of me. So, to summarize: What got me back on track was A) the laptop, and B) a program that let me feel I’ve gone back and taken all the complication out of writing music.
